About Complaint Feedback Loops

Complaint Feedback Loops (CFLs) are a mechanism that allow mailbox providers to forward complaints from their users to email senders. Currently, Waybetter only requests DKIM-based CFLs from Comcast and Verizon Media Group. There are other feedback loops (see https://www.validity.com/blog/what-is-a-feedback-loop/), but are designed for Email Service Providers and not for mailers.

There are a few benefits of CFLs, including:

  1. Unsubscribe complaining users from future mail. SPAM complaints the biggest factor in email deliverability and inboxing.

  2. Gives you a copy of forged SPAM and phishing emails. This can be critical in helping an Email Service Providers (ESPs) shutdowning down bad actors. Most other email reporting mechanisms provide only summary information.

  3. Help you identify phishing attacks when you monitor the volume of forged phishing emails

Even if you have DMARC forensic reporting enabled, enabling a few CFLs is useful given the level of detail they provide.

The following instructions are for setting up Waybetter as a CFL recipient , but can be used a template to deliver CFL to your organization.
